Photography and Wedding Films at One of Scotland's Most Historic Wedding Venues
Borthwick Castle has spent nearly six centuries overlooking the Scottish countryside. In December, its stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and roaring fireplaces take on an entirely different presence, becoming the backdrop for one of the most distinctive winter wedding venues in the United Kingdom.
For this celebration, the season wasn't something to work around—it was the reason the venue felt complete.
Christmas trees filled the Great Hall. Evergreen garlands followed the castle's medieval architecture. Candlelight warmed centuries-old stone, while winter daylight filtered through deep-set windows. Every detail acknowledged the building rather than competing with it, creating a celebration that felt entirely at home within its surroundings.
This wedding brought together Scottish and Greek families for a weekend that reflected both traditions with ease.
The ceremony honored the significance of the occasion while the reception welcomed the warmth and energy of a Greek celebration, filling one of Scotland's oldest castles with music, laughter, and a dance floor that remained full long after dinner had ended.
It was a reminder that remarkable weddings are rarely defined by a single tradition. They're shaped by the people who bring those traditions together.
Buildings like Borthwick Castle ask for a different pace.
The scale of the rooms, the texture of the stone, and the changing winter light offer opportunities that don't exist in contemporary venues. Rather than filling every corner with production, we allowed the castle to remain exactly what it has always been, using its architecture, natural light, and atmosphere to shape both the photographs and wedding films.
From quiet moments beside the fireplaces to portraits framed by medieval archways and celebrations inside the Great Hall, every part of the day was documented with the same creative direction across both photography and film.
Where We Photograph Most Often
While weddings occasionally take us overseas, our work is centered in Boston, throughout New England, and across New York, where we photograph and film celebrations at historic estates, grand hotels, private clubs, waterfront properties, and distinctive venues.
The gallery below offers a closer look at this December wedding at Borthwick Castle—from quiet moments beneath centuries-old stone to a reception that carried Scottish and Greek traditions late into the evening. If you're planning a wedding that values both the setting and the people gathered within it, we'd love to hear what you have in mind.
